Domestic building Warranty insurance is provided by a builder when the cost of building work is more than $16,000 and covers costs up to $300,000 to fix structural defects for 6 years, and non structural defects for 2 years. A Claim against builders warranty Insurance can only be made should the builder die, go bankrupt or otherwise cannot be found.
Warranty insurance should not be confused with contract work and Public Liability Insurance, which is sometimes called Builders All Risk insurance. This insurance covers fire, Damage, theft and injury during the construction period while the builder is in possession of the building site.
Warranty Insurance usually covers homeowners for a period of 6 years and in some States this time varies up to 10 years for major defects. There is also a minor defect period which can be from 3 months to 6 months depending on State Laws.
As a Registered Building Practitioner, you can be assured all work is carried out by qualified tradespeople.
